Just a quick post to document my length progress over the last three and a half months.

I straightened my hair for my work summer party and it looks like my hair has gotten longer! It's now covering the whole of my neck.

I would like to be full collarbone length (CBL) by Christmas - do you think this is a reasonable goal?

I'll upload another length photo in September to mark another three months.

In the meantime, I'll continue with my bunning and S-curl regime

What are you doing to achieve your goals?

  1. Hi, I noticed now that this post is really old but hopefully you can help me I’m a black woman and I have black hair, when I was around 15 i had a perm (straighten my hair), I used to regularly go to a salon that was near my house and my hair was very long and full all same length but since I moved out of my hometown I have not found a place that can take care of my hair the same way, usually it ends up falling off so obviously makes me frustrated to even try to get a new hairstylist so I take care of my hair myself, this never happened before but I noticed a few months ago maybe three that around my crown area or a little below that, in the center of the back of my head. My hair does not have the same length(middle) & the sides they are the same length... in the middle there’s just like a space w way shorter hair, i dont know what to do since i stopped cutting it so it would be longer and now it is but im afraid id have to cut it to the length in the middle that is short.

    1. Hi Raven,

Despite this blog being outdated I appreciate you stopping by and leaving a message!

Firstly, I'd try to figure out why your hair is breaking. You mentioned that you're now taking care of your hair yourself. Are you still deep conditioning your hair regularly? How are you styling your hair, is it in ponytails or buns often? From experience I know these styles can cause tension in the crown (top middle) of the head and often lead to breakage.

I personally wouldn't recommend cutting your hair to match the shorter area unless you're doing it for aesthetic reasons. It would be a good idea to start with a (professionally performed) trim, just to give your hair a good starting point to grow back. Then I'd suggest washing and deep conditioning every 1-2 weeks. Try to limit heat while your hair is recovering, and keep your hair moisturised with a water-based product. Limit buns and ponytail hairstyles for now as these are notorious for causing crown breakage, especially if they're too tight or you're using pins or hairbands in the same area every day.

If you're able to reply with a bit more info on your regime I can help you out with some more specific advice, but I hope that's useful for now.
